SUMMARY:The Nitty Gritty of a Streetcar City
DESCRIPTION:The current DCHS exhibit highlights Omaha’s historic streetcar system. Active from the 1860s until 1955\, Omaha’s streetcar lines were once the primary way for Omaha residents to get around town. They were used to commute to work\, to go grocery shopping\, and to go to church. The exhibit contains photos of Omaha’s streetcar heyday and features an authentic seat\, route maps\, tickets\, and replica conductor uniforms. \nIn addition\, the exhibit explores some of the many issues with streetcars – their frequent accidents\, weather delays\, and the occasional worker’s strike that plagued the streetcar lines until their final days. \nThe Nitty Gritty of a Streetcar City is now open to all Museum guests in the lower level of the General Crook House Museum\, which is open seven days a week. But hurry – this exhibit closes Sunday\, May 30th!

SUMMARY:Rooted in Diversity
DESCRIPTION:Opening Day for DCHS’s latest exhibit is Sunday\, June 27th! Come to the General Crook House Museum between 1-4 pm and be the first to see Rooted in Diversity: Douglas County’s Ethnic Heritage. \nThis year’s exhibit will feature displays highlighting some of Omaha’s many communities\, from its earliest settlers\, including the Irish and German\, to the most arrivals\, including the Karenni and Sudanese\, who have made Omaha their home. Immigrants come from all over the world and make their way right here\, to Douglas County. Many of our churches\, businesses\, and restaurants have their roots in the ethnic traditions of their founders\, and all contribute to Douglas County’s unique character. \nVisit the General Crook House Museum and learn more about Douglas County’s roots. Open seven days a week on the lower level.
