The event begins at 2 pm at Historic Fort Omaha\, 30th and Fort Streets Building #10 Room #110. \n**Limited space so please RSVP to Members@DouglasCoHistory.org or 402-455-9990.** \nA Lost History of the Trans-Mississippi Exposition Buildings \nMore than a century ago\, the 1898 Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition covered 180-acres in North Omaha. There were 20 grand neo-classical buildings\, and dozens of other buildings with exhibitions\, headquarters\, highlights\, amusements and more. This presentation will present some of the most important points about these buildings\, getting past the horsehair and plaster to uncover some rare details that have been lost to time. Discover some of the more interesting\, rare and unusual parts of the story of the main buildings\, the state buildings and the other places that made the TME great! \nAdam has written more than 300 articles for NorthOmahaHistory.com\, hosted 50 episodes of the North Omaha History Podcast and is author of North Omaha History Volumes 1\, 2 & 3. \nThe exhibit is sponsored by Douglas County\, Nebraska\, Humanities Nebraska and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment\, First National Bank and HDR. SUMMARY:Women Defining History Luncheon and Runway Show
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets Online: http://www.douglascohistory.org/2019wdh/ \nThe annual Douglas County Historical Society (DCHS) event\, Women Defining History\, which honors the contribution of women in our community\, will take place this year on Saturday\, March 23rd. Once again\, the event will take place on Historic Fort Omaha at Metropolitan Community College’s Institute of Culinary Arts Swanson Conference Center. This year’s event will begin at 11:30 and tickets will range from $55 for DCHS members to $65 for non-members. Those wishing to get an early start on the vintage jewelry sale and attend an exclusive pre-event champagne reception beginning at 11:00 a.m. are able to purchase a Patron ticket for $80. \nThis year’s honoree is DCHS member Cindy Hadsell who is being recognized for her impact of her philanthropic work in our community. The Douglas County community is richer because of her work with arts and culture\, the humanities\, and human services. \nCombined with the honoring of the award is the themed runway show\, focusing on a certain time in fashion. This year’s theme will be Pillboxes to headbands: Fashions from the 1960s. \nIn order to fully engage and educate on this fascinating time in fashion\, Sue McLain of Yesterday’s Lady in Beatrice will once again join the event as emcee of the runway show. Volunteer models will grace the runway with the opportunity for attendees to view the designs up close. \nAlso included with this years festivities will be the vintage jewelry sale offering a plethora of accessories at an affordable price range.
