Collections

At DCHS, we’re collectors at heart…

Our collections, which span from the mid-19th through the 21st centuries, range from genealogical and family papers to business and organizational records to items such as clothing, decorative arts, photographs, postcards, sheet music and menus. The DCHS Archives Center contains a wealth of published material, including books, pamphlets, serials and newspapers. The General Crook House Museum houses our clothing and decorative arts collections.
*The Douglas County Historical Society is pausing all donations temporarily, until further notice due to a high volume of inquiries. Thank you for your interest in donating to the Douglas County Historical Society (DCHS).
We do not accept “drop-offs” or “doorstep” donations to the historical society/museum. Any unsolicited items left or mailed to the historical society/museum will not be considered for donation.
DCHS strives to collect, preserve, and exhibit objects from the collections and follows museum standards in selecting any acquisitions. During this pause, our collections staff will be working on an extensive collection assessment of the collections, including reviewing the collection policies and procedures to ensure future acquisitions are part of the organization’s mission that pertains to Douglas County and the public we serve. Since DCHS was established in 1957, the organization has received many donations; therefore, we will also assess the storage of collections to make more room for future contributions. Thank you for your patience, and please check back here for updates on when we will be accepting donations again.
