Second Sunday Series: History of Burlington Station

Douglas County Historical Society’s monthly program, Second Sunday Series, is proud to present the March installment entitled “This History and Rebirth on 7 Burlington Station” given by KETV President and General Manager, Ariel Roblin. The presentation will take place on Sunday, March 12 at 2 p.m. on Historic Fort Omaha in Metropolitan Community College’s Building 10, located on the north end of campus.

Opened on July 4, 1898 the historic Burlington Station welcomed visitors from around the world to the Trans-Mississippi International Exposition. It served as a hub for passenger train traffic in Omaha until 1974. For more than 40 years it stood dormant until KETV came looking for a new home.

“The past, present and future of our community come together at 7 Burlington Station.” Roblin Says. “Telling this building’s story is like telling the story of Omaha.” The presentation will cover the history of the Burlington Station and the 2-and-a-half year renovation that lead up to the launch of 7 Burlington Station in October of 2015.

The Second Sunday Series is a once per month series of presentations that serve to highlight a diverse range of topics and time periods related to Douglas County history. The Second Sunday Series is offered free of charge to DCHS members as a benefit of their membership and $5 for non-members.
