Join archeologist Rob Bozell as we dig beneath the Omaha we know and explore thousands of years of human history revealed through archeological investigations.
Ancient Indigenous villages and mounds. French fur trade posts. Sunken steamboats. Forts. Old trails.
Each discovery is another clue to the people who were here before us and the lives they lived.
How do we know these places existed? What can something buried for hundreds or even thousands of years tell us? And how much of Omaha’s story is still waiting beneath the surface?

About the Speaker
Rob Bozell is an Omaha native with more than 45 years of experience as an archeologist, including much of his career serving as Nebraska State Archeologist. His professional interests include past foodways, Indigenous archeology of the past 2,000 years, and working with tribes on repatriation.
He has authored numerous technical reports, journal articles, book chapters, and research monographs and, in 2026, coedited Below Nebraska: Archeology and Ancestors. Although he retired in 2021, Rob remains active in archeological research and consulting.
